Kitchen trends & colours 2026

In short

The 2026 kitchen becomes warmer, more natural and more open to the rest of the space. Cold, all-white minimalism gives way to earthy shades, natural materials and islands that become the social centre of the home. Below are the five trends, with the real shades and materials of the Italian houses we curate.

  • Warm minimalism: clean, handleless lines, warm materials.
  • Natural wood and stone in the foreground.
  • Deep, earthy shades instead of all white.
  • The island as the heart of everyday life.
  • Kitchen and living room with one language.

1. Warm minimalism

Clean, handleless lines stay, but gain warmth. Instead of cold, glossy surfaces, 2026 brings matt finishes, warm materials and a sense of calm. Minimalism no longer means “empty” and “cold”, but understated and welcoming.

Technically, the “clean” front comes in two ways: the gola, an aluminium channel in the body of the unit, or the recessed handle within the door panel itself. We explain them in the guide to handleless kitchens. In Gerakas we designed a Gentili Time in walnut veneer and greige matt lacquer, with no handles and concealed lighting: warm minimalism in practice.

2. Natural wood and stone

Natural wood, in veneer or solid, and stone surfaces dominate. Textures become part of the design: wood grain, matt stone and natural imperfections that give character. It is a turn towards materials that age beautifully.

  • Knotty wood. In Scandola Maestrale the Nora front is three layers of solid knotty spruce, 2.5 cm thick, brushed. More in our guide to solid wood kitchens.
  • Stone in large slabs. The Ascale is sintered stone made from 100% natural minerals, in sheets up to 320×160 cm. In Gerakas the worktop, the splashback and the waterfall island are in Ascale Vagli Gold, with a matt finish.
  • A worktop without crystalline silica. The Caesarstone adds to quartz, porcelain and Mineral the new silica-free ICON.

All the worktop options, with their pros and cons, are in the kitchen worktops guide.

3. Deep, earthy shades

Pure white gives way to deep greens, earthy browns, terracotta and soft off-black. A few real shades from the houses we curate:

  • Greens: Fenix «Verde Comodoro» at Gentili Time, matt lacquer «Forest Green» at GF Interiors Flat, «Prato» at Callesella.
  • Reds and terracotta: Fenix NTM «Rosso Jaipur», as at Skiathos, where the doors and worktop are in the same shade; «Amarena» at Callesella.
  • Beige and mocha: «Tortora» and «Nocciola» at Callesella Sweet Kitchen, «Beige Antico» at Sira, matt lacquer «Cappuccino» at Gentili Time, as in Chalandri.

A statement colour on the island or the cabinets completely changes the character of the space. We have gathered all the shade families, from whites to anthracite, in our guide to lacquer kitchens.

4. The island as a social hub

The island is no longer just a work surface. It becomes the place where the family gathers, cooks and entertains. A snack worktop, concealed lighting and open shelves turn it into the heart of daily life, and hobs with an integrated extractor, such as the one from Bora, keep the ceiling above it clear. How much space it needs and what to plan for, we explain in our guide to the kitchen with an island.

The island becomes sculpture too. The Febal Casa Onda, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, has doors in fused glass with a metallic finish. If a softer shape appeals to you, see how a curved kitchen island does away with corners, with the Pedini Arkè Shape.

5. Kitchen and living as one

The 2026 kitchen does not stop at the worktop: it continues into the living area, with shared materials, colours and furniture compositions. It is the same thinking that leads us to design with you not only the kitchen, but often the whole home.

The house that does this most completely is Febal Casa. It started in 1959 in Pesaro from the kitchen and today designs kitchen, living, wardrobes and walk-in with a single language. In the «Casa» lookbook you will see eleven homes in eleven cities around the world, from Milan to Tokyo, where every space speaks the same language of materials. We did the same in our project in Berlin: kitchen, wardrobes and bathrooms designed together.

How materials come together from room to room is something we work on with moodboards: stone next to wood, colour next to metal, before any drawing.

Frequently asked questions

What is the dominant kitchen colour for 2026?

There is no single colour, but a direction: deep, earthy shades, green, brown, terracotta, off-black, combined with natural wood and matt finishes.

Is minimalism still «in»?

Yes, but in a warmer version. The clean lines and concealed handles remain, but they are combined with wood veneer, matt lacquer and warm shades that make the space welcoming rather than cold.

How do I choose a trend that will last?

By choosing quality, natural materials and timeless shades as the base, and keeping the bolder trends for elements that are easy to change, such as a colour on the island. At MobilCasa we discuss it with you, with a design study and 3D design in the showroom.

Shall we design it together?

Come to our showroom in Neo Psychiko — we design and cost your kitchen together. The 3D design for the presentation is free.
